"Προσπάθησα να σκιαγραφήσω το Λασκαράτο με βάση όχι όσα έγραψαν οι βιογράφοι του γι αυτόν, τα όσα άκουσα στην πατρίδα του για τη ζωή του, τα ανέκδοτα του και τόσα άλλα αμφίβολης αλήθειας ντοκουμέντα. Προσπάθησα να τον σκιαγραφήσω αποκλειστικά όπως φαίνεται κοιταγμένος μέσα από το έργο του. Βέβαια ένα τέτοιο ανθρώπινο σκίτσο μπορεί νάνε ακαλαίσθητο: με έναν υπερτροφικό εγκέφαλο και τα άλλα μέλη του ατροφικά. Ωστόσο νομίζω πως η ιδεολογική πορεία ενός συγγραφέα θα πρέπει να ενδιαφέρει τον αναγνώστη κι όχι οι μικρές ή μεγάλες ιδιοτροπίες της ιδιωτικής του ζωής..."
