Στην παρούσα του μελέτη ο ιστορικός κ. Λουκάτος ασχολείται με τις θαλασσινές παραδόσεις που απαντούν στον Επτανησιακό χώρο. Τις παραδόσεις αυτές τις χωρίζει σε έξι κατηγορίες και πιο συγκεκριμένα αυτές που αφορούν:

Καταποντισμένες πολιτείες και τόπους,
Απολιθώσεις και μαρμαρώματα,
Σπήλαια και βράχους με οδυσσειακές αφηγήσεις,
Ακτωνύμια με ιστορικές απηχήσεις,
Δεισιδαιμονικά επεισόδια του γιαλού,
και τέλος Ακρωτήρια - βράχους ανθρωπωνυμικούς και ζωωνυμικούς.
