Το υπνοδωμάτιο, τόσο στα χωριά, όσο και στις πόλεις της Κεφαλονιάς, είχε ήδη διαμορφωθεί από τις αρχές του 16ου αιώνα.με την προσθήκη ορισμένων απλών επίπλων κατά το δεύτερο ήμισυ του 19ου αιώνα ο εξοπλισμός του διατηρήθηκε αναλλοίωτος ως την εποχή των μεγάλων σεισμών του 1953, που άλλαξαν την όψη του νησιού και κατέστρεψαν όλα σχεδόν τα απτά στοιχεία της ιδιόμορφης κοινωνικής ζωής του...
