"Τα κείμενα πού συνθέτουν αυτό το τομίδιο δημοσιεύτηκαν για πρώτη φορά στο περιοδικό Σημειώσεις κατά την περίοδο 1980-1989. Το κείμενο του επιμέτρου είναι προγενέστερο. Δημοσιεύτηκε για πρώτη φορά στο περιοδικό Σημειώσεις (1976) και εν συνεχεία στη συλλογή δοκιμίων Αναφορές (1979). Αναδημοσιεύεται εδώ ως μια πρώτη απόπειρα του συγγραφέα να προσεγγίσει συνολικά το έργο του Νίκου Καββαδία, του οποίου ορισμένες επιμέρους πτυχές εξετάζονται λεπτομερέστερα στο κυρίως μέρος του βιβλίου, στη διασταύρωσή τους με το έργο του ποιητή Δ. L Αντωνίου και του πεζογράφου Βασίλη Βουλή. "
